Data Put the Earth at the Center of The Universe but Scientists Prefer to Say the Earth Orbits the Sun

Galileo declared that the earth went around the sun after he built a telescope and saw the moons of Jupiter orbiting around Jupiter ~ 1609.  That helped Satan deny the clear Bible teaching[1] that the earth is the immovable center of God’s universe.  People trusted “science, falsely so called (1 Tim. 6:20[2])” instead of the Word of God.  Few modern Christians believe that the sun, planets, and the universe go around the earth.

Abandoning creation doctrines taught in Genesis 1[3] has led Christians to abandon more doctrines over time.[4]  Christians are falling away from longstanding doctrines (II Thes. 2:2-4[5]) faster and faster.

Sir Isaac Newton wrote, “I design only to give mathematical notion of these forces, without consideration of their physical causes and seats.”[6]  He knew that his mathematical formulas for earth and the planets following elliptical orbits around the sun did not mean that was what they did.

Einstein agreed that mathematics didn’t always match reality: “As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.”[7]  The weather we experience doesn’t always match the mathematically-derived weather predictions.  That’s what Einstein meant when he said “as far as they [mathematical laws] are certain, they do not refer to reality.”

Christians didn’t pursue Sir Isaac’s saying that mathematics doesn’t necessarily describe reality, ignored Biblical teaching,[8] and agreed that the Bible was wrong.  This acceptance of unbelief[9] glorifies Satan.

The more data astronomers collected, the harder it became to deny that the universe revolved around the earth.  The simple experiment that proved that the earth was at the center came in 1871.[10]  This experiment was so convincing that it took Einstein 20 years to imagine a semi-plausible way to account for all the data while saying that the earth moved.[11]  The Times of London called his explanations “an affront to common sense,”[12] yet his fellow scientists praised his notions enough that he got a Nobel Prize!

Christians didn’t shout out the implications of the 1871 experiment, but physicists know very well what it meant.  Harvard professor Richard Lewontin explained why scientists defend the moving earth against so much compelling evidence that the universe rotates around the unmoving earth:

“We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs, in spite of its failure to fulfill many of its extravagant promises of health, in spite of the tolerance of the scientific for unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we have a prior commitment to materialism.

It is not that the methods and institutions of science somehow compel[13] us to accept a material explanation of the phenomenal[14] world, but, on the contrary, that we are forced by our a priori adherence to material causes to create an apparatus of investigation and a set of concepts that produce material explanations, no matter how counterintuitive, no matter how mystifying to the uninitiated.  Moreover, that materialism is absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door.”[15] [emphasis added]

Most scientists prefer to accept absurd ideas, tolerate “unsubstantiated just-so stories,” and support counterintuitive materialist explanations because God-oriented explanations are intolerable.[16]  Clinging to vain imaginations (2 Cor. 10:5)[17] is their only way to avoid acknowledging their Creator (Ps. 19:1)[18].  Their guilty consciences know that God expects them to answer for their sins so they try to pretend He doesn’t exist.

Scripture responds:

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.  Psalm 53:1

They are worse than fools.  Fools don’t understand the truth.  Scorners know truth, but choose to reject it.  A few are saying that their data say the earth is the center and that Einstein’s relativity must be abandoned.[19]

True science goes wherever the facts lead.  Basing conclusions on human preferences is not science.^[20]

Christians live by faith.  That means there can’t be scientific proof whether the earth or sun moves.  God said He fixed the earth in place, wrapped the universe around it, and sent His Son to earth to die for our sins.  Scientists say they choose to believe that the earth goes around the sun, a minor dust mote among billions, placed where it is by random chance, even though the fixed earth is the simplest way to interpret their data.

God expects His people to choose to believe that “God’s in His heaven; all’s right with the world.”[21]  The Bible teaches that God handles the math by “the Word of His power (Heb. 1:3).”[22]

Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?  Luke 18:8b

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.  Mark 8:38 see also Luke 9:26

Do you trust science, falsely so called[23], or do you trust God’s Word?
