Teaching the Bible Through 150 Questions

Clicking a footnote link takes you to the footnote; the browser "back" button brings you back where you were.

INTRODUCTION

These 150 questions will help you teach other Christians to answer these 4 questions:

Who is Jesus to you?  Jesus most vital question was, “But whom say ye that I am? (Mt. 16:15, Mk. 8:29, Lk. 9:20)”  The Apostle Peter answered, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God (Mt. 16:16, Mk. 8:29).”  That is the most important question for anyone.

Where do you find truth?  When many stopped following Jesus (Jn. 6:66), He asked, “Will ye also go away (Jn. 6:67)?”  Peter replied, “Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life (Jn. 6:68).”  Christians know that only Jesus spoke truth about eternal life and that we must cling to Him and to His Words (Mk. 8:38, Lk. 9:26, 1 Tim. 6:3-5).  We persuade people that the Bible is worthy of honor, respect, study, and obedience because it’s from God (2 Cor. 5:11).

Why did the rulers want to kill Jesus?  Jesus did not sin, He healed, He fed people, and He taught truth.  Knowing why the religious authorities killed Him explains most actions of power-seeking governments (Jn. 11:48).  There are only two sides: Jesus’ and Satan’s (Mt. 12:30, Lk. 11:23).  If someone doesn’t show the good fruit of being on Jesus’ side, we judge that they’re on Satan’s side from their bad fruit (Mt. 7:15-20).  Many governments try to destroy churches and Christians – Satan hates Jesus and His people, so Satan’s people hate us (Jn. 15:18, 25).

Do you have an Attitude of Gratitude?  Moses warned that the Jews would be carried into captivity unless they loved God with grateful hearts with thanks for everything He gave them:

Because thou servedst not the LORD thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things; 48Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed theeDeuteronomy 28:47-48

God’s People didn’t appreciate the blessings He gave them, so He took everything away.  They were in want of “all things.”  We often take His gifts for granted.  “We never miss the water ‘til the well runs dry.”  Teach an Attitude of gratitude!

The fruits of teaching these questions since they were written in the 1640s have shown that they are an effective way to “teach all nations” and will help build convictions to answer the four questions.

Why we quoted the King James Bible

God wrote the Bible to teach us how to be saved (Jn. 3:16-18) so that we can produce the Fruit of the Spirit in this life (Gal. 5:22, Eph. 5:9), win the lost (Mt. 28:19-20, Mk. 16:15-16), and live forever in Heaven with Him.  Satan cast doubt on God’s Word by asking Eve “hath God said (Gen. 3:1)” and tries to corrupt our minds from the “simplicity that is in Christ (2 Cor. 11:3).”

John 3:18 tells us that we are condemned if we do not believe on Jesus, the only begotten Son of God.  Christians must teach that Jesus was both man and God in the flesh and became the perfect sacrifice to pay the price for all our sins as the KJV does.

Hebrews 9:22 teaches that sin cannot be paid for or be forgiven without shedding blood.  A Bible must teach that Jesus was both God and man who lived a perfect live and died on the cross to shed His perfect blood to wash away our sins.

Modern Translations Teach an Imperfect Jesus who Cannot Save

Moses’ Law required Jews to sacrifice perfect, healthy, valuable animals.  This was a preview of Jesus, the coming Savior.  Malachi 1:8 tells of God’s anger at inferior sacrifices.  1 Peter 1:19-21 explains that Jesus lived a sinless life and fulfilled Moses’ law (Mt. 5:18, Luke 21:32) to be the perfect sacrifice.

Moses’ law said that a woman needed 33 days of purifying after giving birth to a son.

And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and thirty days; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled.  Leviticus 12:4

Jesus’ parents fulfilled the law after He was born:

And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;  Luke 2:22 (KJV)

The RSV, ESV, and NASB say “their purification” in Luke 2:22.  This makes no sense: Moses’ Law said that one person, the mother, needed purification after giving birth, not the father and the baby.  A Jesus who needed purification could not be a perfect sacrifice; imperfect blood couldn’t save anyone.

The Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Pe. 1:21, 2 Tim. 3:16).  The RSV, ESV and NASB refer to “her purification” in Lev. 12:4 and “their purification” in Luke 2:22.  These versions are just plain wrong.  They imply that the Holy Spirit made a mistake in these passages.

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.  Matthew 12:31 (KJV)

These versions teach “another Jesus (2 Cor. 11:4)” who cannot save while blaspheming the Holy Ghost.

The NIV papers over this issue, “When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses...”  That is not translation; it’s a dodge to avoid the error the translators saw in the manuscript.

God Didn’t Come In The Flesh

Newer versions substitute of “he” for “God” in Paul’s letter to Timothy:

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.  I Timothy 3:16 (KJV)

The NIV, ESV, NASB, and RSV refer to “he” being manifest or revealed in the flesh, not God.  A man being seen in a human body is no mystery – anyone born of woman is manifest or revealed or seen in the flesh.  The mystery is God in a human body that suffered hunger, weariness, and pain.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the worldI John 4:1-3 (KJV)

Newer versions “confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh” so they are not of God.  Weakening the doctrine of salvation through a perfect sacrifice of the Son of God who appeared in the flesh and walked among people in a human body is “that spirit of antichrist.”

Newer versions call Jesus a lying sinner:

Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast: for my time is not yet full come.  John 7:8

The NIV, ESV, NASB, and RSV omit the word “yet.”  Their Jesus lied: He went to the feast (Jn. 7:9-10).

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment:  Matthew 5:22a (KJV)

The NIV, ESV, NASB, and RSV omit “without a cause.”  Their Jesus sinned by being angry (Mt. 21:13, Mk. 11:17, Lk. 19:46). Ephesians 4:26 “Be ye angry, and sin not” shows that righteous anger is not a sin.

They are saying that the Holy Spirit made another mistake while inspiring either Mt. 5:22 or Eph. 4:26.

Those who say that only a few passages are changed and there is evidence for Jesus’ perfection in other places must consider Satan’s devices (2 Cor. 2:11).  Newer versions must make enough changes to get a copyright so the gospel becomes weaker and weaker with each one.  Satan can’t destroy the Word of God but he has a long-term plan to sow so much confusion around it that few will find it.

SHOWING THAT THE BIBLE IS GOD’S WORD

Fulfilled prophecy shows that the Bible came from God.  4,000 years ago, God told the Jews that if they disobeyed His law, they would be “plucked from off the land … And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; (De. 28:63b-64)”

God prophesied that Jews would be gathered back into Israel (Zec. 10:8) and accept Jesus as Messiah (Zec. 12:10-14).  They haven’t all been gathered to Israel yet, but the survival of the Jews as a people shows God’s power.   Generations of tyrants have tried to exterminate Jews, but DNA analysis shows that Jews survived not only as a set of beliefs but as a distinct genetic group.

The Bible’s honesty shows that it’s not from men.  It describes Noah’s drunkenness, David’s adultery and murder, and many more sins.  Human authors tend to speak well of their main characters, but Daniel is the only major character for whom we aren’t told about sin.

Scientific accuracy shows that God wrote the Bible.  God’s purpose is to explain how to go to Heaven and not to tell us how the heavens go, but when it speaks on science, it’s accurate.  Ec. 1:5-7 describe jet streams and the rainfall cycle which wasn’t understood until the 20th century.  Jet streams weren’t discovered until after WW I when airplanes flew high enough to find them.  Job 38:16 describes the “springs of the sea,” but we had no way to know about the fresh-water springs on the ocean floor until recently.  Job 38:24 says that light creates wind.  Scientists took years to find out that wind is created when the sun warms air so that it rises, which draws in cooler air as wind.

Biblical preservation shows that the Bible is a supernatural book.  Many governments have tried to destroy the Bible, but it remains.  Communist governments tried to destroy the Church, but there are now more Christians in both China and Russia than ever before.

Visible changes in the lives of anyone who accepts God’s offer of salvation through grace proves that the Bible is the Word of God.  After Jesus showed Himself to the “Woman at the Well, “many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified … (Jn. 4:39)”  As with Christians today, her testimony would make no sense unless people saw a change in her.  We see many cases where “old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (II Co. 5:17)” to show God’s transforming power as expressed in His Word.  Is this not the Word of God?

How to Use this Book

Question and answer is the best teaching method known, but it takes time, study, and deep care for the lives and souls of your students.  You must study the verses listed above and pay close attention to the questions to make sure that each learner grasps the ideas and meanings of the words.

Scripture Memorization Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.  (Psalm 119:11).  Either the Bible will keep you from sin or sin will keep you from the Bible.  God's Word gets into hearts through memorization.  With gentle encouragement, even young children can learn Scripture.  Memorizing the answers helps Christians know what they believe and why they believe it.

Sunday school Clarifying the ideas takes repetition.  If a child knows “God made me,” ask “What / Who is God?  Is God in a tree, or in a river?  Is God found in people?”  So much animism is being taught that kids may not realize that the One True God is separate from His creation.

Even young people can memorize Genesis 1.  Understanding that God had an orderly plan when He made all things helps people believe that God has a plan for them.  Gen. 1 teaches, “God said …  and it was so.”  Christians must know that if God says it, it’s so.

Go to deeper questions as a believer’s understanding develops.  Why should I give my life to giving God glory?  What has He done for me?  What does it mean to give God glory?  How do I do that?  Does God need our praise?   What does praising God do to me or for me or for Him?

Family Devotions can use the material to start discussions.  Parents’ personal testimony and family experiences either support or tear down these principles.

Children’s Classes may not have time for the entire list, but the doctrines make good lessons.

Bible Study is more effective when it’s organized and systematic.  The questions explain important doctrines which can be the starting points for deeper study; see the Doctrine Index.

What does it mean to be in God’s image?  Genesis 1:27 see also Genesis 5:1-2  What is God’s image?

Why should I obey God?  Why did God tell me to obey my parents?  This gets to the heart of the study of God.  Anyone who’s convinced that God is good wants to understand His commands because obeying Him brings blessing.  People who don’t think God is good read the Bible for loopholes to claim they don’t have to obey.  Evolution is popular because if there is no God, it doesn’t matter what He says.  If we came through random chance, there’s nothing wrong with murder or lying to benefit you.

Why must we obey God?  Does God have “creator’s rights?”

Did God create the universe in such a way that you’ll be happier if you follow His rules, or will your life work out as well if you ignore His rules?  If I jump off a building and break my leg, can I complain, “How could a loving God let me get hurt?”  Would you feel sorry for me, or call me a fool?  Nobody thinks we can ignore God’s law of gravity.  Why, then, would anyone think we can ignore God’s laws of marriage, society, government, and sin?  God lets us choose to obey Him or not, but we reap what we sow.

And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.  Psalm 106:15

27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.  28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful[45], and multiply, and replenish[46] the earth, and subdue[47] it: and have dominion[48] over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.  29And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.  30And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. 31And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.  Genesis 1:27-31

26)       What is a covenant?  A covenant is an agreement between two or more persons.
11And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.  12And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual[49] generations: 13I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.  14And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: 15And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.  16And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.  17And God said unto Noah, This is the token[50] of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.  Genesis 9:11-17
8He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.  9Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath[51] unto Isaac;  10And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: 11Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: Palm 105:8-11

27)       What was Adam’s part in the covenant in order to stay in the Garden of Eden?  Adam was required to obey God perfectly.
15And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.  16And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.  Genesis 2:15-17

28)       Did Adam obey God?  No, Adam chose to disobey God.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired[52] to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.  Genesis 3:6

29)       Did Adam’s sin affect himself alone?  No, Adam’s sin made all men lose communion with God, become sinful in nature, and subject[53] to God’s wrath.
Nevertheless[54] death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression[55], who is the figure of him that was to come.
Romans 5:14
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23
Among whom also we all had our conversation[56] in times past in the lusts[57] of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.  Ephesians 2:3

30)       How did God punish Adam’s disobedience[58]?  Adam’s punishment[59] was death and separation from God.
17And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened[60] unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed[61] is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;  18Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;  19In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.  20And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.  21Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.  22And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.  24So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims[62], and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.  Genesis 3:17-24
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Romans 5:12

31)       What is sin?   Sin is any lack of conformity unto, or transgression of, the law of God.
Whosoever committeth[63] sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
I John 3:4

32)       What is meant by “transgression?”  Transgression is failing to do what God commands or doing what God forbids.
13So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire[64] of it  14And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.  I Chronicles 10:13-14
6Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses for they have been ever of old.  7Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions:according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.  Psalm 25:6-7
3But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?  4For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.  5But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;  6And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.   Matthew 15:3-6

33)       Who is Satan?  Satan is an evil spirit who is the enemy of God and of all Christians.
The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.  Matthew 13:39
Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.  Luke 22:3
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.  John 8:44
8Be sober, be vigilant[65]; because your adversary[66]the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour[67]: 9whom resist stedfast in the faith[68], knowing that the same afflictions[69] are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.  I Peter 5:8-9

34)       Was Satan ever good?  Yes, Satan was once one of God’s greatest angels.
12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!  13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt[70] my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation[71], in the sides of the north: 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.  15Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.  Isaiah 14:12-15

35)       What was Satan’s name when he was one of God’s angels?  Satan’s name was Lucifer.
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!  Isaiah 14:12

36)       Why is Lucifer not one of God’s angels today?  Lucifer became jealous[72] of God and wanted to be as great as He, so God cast him out of heaven.
12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!  13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.  15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
Isaiah 14:12-15
7And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,  8and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.  9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth[73] the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.  Revelation 12:7-9

37)       What is Lucifer now called?  Lucifer is now called Satan or the Devil.
And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.  Luke 10:18
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning.  For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.  I John 3:8
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.  Revelation 12:9

38)       Who is stronger, God or Satan?  GOD is stronger.
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.  I John 3:8
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.  I John 4:4

39)       Does Satan want God’s will to be done?  No, Satan always wants people to do the opposite of what God wants them to do.
And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.  I Chronicles 21:1
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.  John 8:44;
11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities[74], against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Ephesians 6:11-12
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wickedEphesians 6:16

40)       What was the sin of our first parents? Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate of fruit that God told them not to eat.
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.  Genesis 2:17
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.  Genesis 3:6

41)       Who tempted[75] Adam and Eve to sin?  Satan tempted Eve, and she gave the fruit to Adam.
1Now the serpent was more subtil[76] than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?  2And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.  4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.  6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.  Genesis 3:1-6

42)       What happened to our first parents when they had sinned?  Instead of being holy and happy, they became sinful and miserable.  Genesis 3:8-24

43)       What effect did Adam’s sin have on all mankind?  Because of Adam’s sin, all mankind lost fellowship[77] with God, received a sinful nature, and began to do evil.
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Romans 5:12

44)       What is that sinful nature we inherit from Adam called?  Our corrupt[78] nature is called original sin.
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity[79]; and in sin did my mother conceive[80] me.  Psalm 51:5
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Romans 5:12

45)       What does every sin deserve?  Every sin deserves the wrath and curse of God.
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.  Genesis 2:17
30If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;  31if they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;  32then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.  Psalm 89:30-32
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.  Galatians 3:10

46)       Who can save us?  The only Savior of men is the Lord Jesus Christ, Who being the eternal Son of God, became man and so is both God and man in two natures and one Person.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  John 14:6
Neither is there salvation[81] in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.  Acts 4:12

47)       What does God require of man before he can go to heaven?  No one can enter heaven unless his heart is changed.
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily[82], verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  John 3:3
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth[83] in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation[84]; but is passed from death unto life.  John 5:24
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  John 14:6
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.  Acts 4:12
Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.  Romans 7:4

48)       What is this change of heart called?  This change of heart is called regeneration.
26A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.  27And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.  Ezekiel 36:26-27
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.  II Corinthians 5:17
5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing[85] of the Holy Ghost;  6which he shed on us abundantly[86] through Jesus Christ our Saviour;  Titus 3:5-6

49)       Who can change a sinner’s heart?  The Holy Spirit can change a sinner’s heart.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;  Titus 3:5

50)       How is your heart changed?  My heart is changed by the Holy Spirit because of the grace of God shown in the work of Christ.
4But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,  5not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;  6which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;  7that being justified[87] by his grace, we should be made heirs[88] according to the hope of eternal life.  Titus 3:4-7

51)       What is grace?  Grace is God’s kindness to us when we deserve punishment.
6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.  7The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 8But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed[89] you out of the house of bondmen[90], from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.  9Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;   Deuteronomy 7:6-9
22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.  24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption[91] that is in Christ Jesus: Romans 3:22-24
1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.  3And not only so, but we glory in tribulations[92] also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;  4and patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.  6For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.  7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure[93] for a good man some would even dare to die.  8But God commendeth[94] his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:1-8
8For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous20Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21that as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.  Romans 5:19-21
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.  Ephesians 2:8-9

52)       What is the work of Christ?  The work of Christ is to keep perfectly the law of God and to suffer[95] the punishment due for our sins.
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.  II Corinthians 5:21
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection[96], and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable[97] unto his death;  Philippians 3:10
8Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;  9And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;  Hebrews 5:8-9
11But Christ being come an high priest[98] of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle[99], not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;  12Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.  13For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying[100] of the flesh: 14How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience[101] from dead works to serve the living God?  Hebrews 9:11-14  see also  Hebrews 10:11-22

53)       Can anyone be saved by his own works?  No one can be saved by his own works.
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justifiedGalatians 2:16
8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: 9not of works, lest any man should boast.  Ephesians 2:8-9
4But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,  5not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;  6which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;  7that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.  Titus 3:4-7

54)       Did Christ ever sin?  No, Christ was holy, sinless, and undefiled[102].
And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.  Isaiah 53:9
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.  II Corinthians 5:21
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities[103]; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.  Hebrews 4:15
For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;  Hebrews 7:26
21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22who did no sin, neither was guile[104] found in his mouth: 23who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth[105] righteously: I Peter 2:21-23

55)       How could the Son of God suffer?  Christ, the Son of God, became man that He might obey and suffer in our nature.  Romans 5:1-21
7But made himself of no reputation[106], and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled[107] himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  Philippians 2:7-8
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; Philippians 3:10
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.  Hebrews 2:9
8Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;  Hebrews 5:8-9

56)       What is meant by the atonement[108]?  The atonement is Christ’s satisfying divine[109] justice by His sufferings and death in the place of sinners.
8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.  10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled[110] to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.  11And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonementRomans 5:8-11

57)       What do we gain from the work of Christ?  God regenerates, justifies, and sanctifies those who believe in Christ.
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.  I Corinthians 6:11
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justifiedGalatians 2:16
5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;  8that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.  Titus 3:5-7
9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.  10For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.  11For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,  Hebrews 2:9-11

58)       What is justification?  Justification is God’s forgiving me and treating me just as if I had never sinned.
24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation[111] through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission[112] of sins that are past, through the forbearance[113] of God;  Romans 3:24-25
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the SpiritRomans 8:1
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken[114] your mortal[115] bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.  Romans 8:11
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing[116] their trespasses[117] unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliationII Corinthians 5:19
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.  II Corinthians 5:21

59)       How am I justified?  I am justified by faith in the work of Christ and on the grounds of His righteousness.
And as concerning[118] that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption[119], he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.  Acts 13:34
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justifiedGalatians 2:16
25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;  26to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.  27Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith28Therefore we conclude[120] that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.  Romans 3:25-28

60)       What is sanctification?  Sanctification is God’s making me holy in heart and behavior.
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.  I Corinthians 6:11
19What? know ye not that your body is the temple[121] of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  20For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.  I Corinthians 6:19-20
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation[122] of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:  Ephesians 1:3-4
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23and be renewed in the spirit of your mind;  24and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.  Ephesians 4:22-24
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  I Thessalonians 5:23
19Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour21If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.  II Timothy 2:19-21
Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.  Hebrews 13:12
Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.  Hebrews 13:21

61)       What are the two parts of sanctification?  The two parts of sanctification are dying to sin and living to righteousness.
I am crucified[123] with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet n33ot I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.  Galatians 2:20
Mortify[124] therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication[125], uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence[126], and covetousness[127], which is idolatry[128]: Colossians 3:5
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.  Romans 8:13

62)       For whom did Christ obey and suffer?  Christ obeyed and suffered for sinners.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:8

63)       What kind of death did Christ die?  Christ died the painful and shameful death of the cross.
33And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.  34Then said Jesus, Father, forgive[129] them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment[130], and cast lots.  35And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided[131] him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.  36And the soldiers also mocked[132] him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,  37and saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.  38And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.  Luke 23:33-38
Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: Galatians 3:13
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  Philippians 2:8

64)       Who will be saved?  Whoever repents[133] and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.  Isaiah 55:7
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.  Luke 13:3
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  Luke 24:47
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.  John 6:47

65)       What does it mean to repent?  To repent is to be sorry for sin, to hate it, and to forsake it because it displeases God.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.  II Chronicles 7:14
Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
II Corinthians 7:9

66)       What is faith in Christ?  Faith in Christ is trusting in Him alone for salvation.
22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.  24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Romans 3:22-25
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justifiedGalatians 2:16
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: Philippians 3:9
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Hebrews 12:2

67)       Can you repent and believe in Christ by your own power?  No, I cannot repent and believe in Christ without the help of God’s Holy Spirit.
5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spiritJohn 3:5-6
7Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient[134] for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.  8And when he is come, he will reprove[135] the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9of sin, because they believe not on me;  10of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;  11of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.  John 16:7-11
9But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.  10But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.  11For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.  12Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.  I Corinthians 2:9-12
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;  Titus 3:5

68)       Does Christ care for little children?  Yes, for He says “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not. for of such is the kingdom of God.”  Mark 10:14

69)       How long has it been since Christ died?  Christ died more than 1,900 years ago.

70)       How were people saved before the coming of Christ?  People were saved by believing in a Savior to come.
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded[136] of them, and embraced[137] them, and confessed[138] that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.  Hebrews 11:13

71)       How did people show their faith before the coming of Christ?  People showed their faith by offering sacrifices on God’s altar.
By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent[139] sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness[140] that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.  Hebrews 11:4

72)       What did the sacrifices represent? The sacrifices represented Christ, the Lamb of God, Who was to die for sinners.
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.  John 1:29
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!  John 1:36
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;  12Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.  13For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?  Hebrews 9:11-14

73)       How many offices does Christ have?  Christ has three offices: prophet, priest, and king.
For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet[141] shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.  Acts 3:22
5So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.  6As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.  Hebrews 5:5-6
And he hath on his vesture[142] and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.  Revelation 19:16

74)       What are Christ’s offices?  Christ’s offices are prophet, priest, and king.
6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.  7Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.  The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.  Isaiah 9:6-7
18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance[143] to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.  19To preach the acceptable[144] year of the Lord.  Luke 4:18-19
For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.  Acts 3:22
14Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.  15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 4:14-15
5So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.  6As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.  Hebrews 5:5-6
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.  Revelation 19:16

75)       How is Christ a prophetChrist teaches us the will of God.
18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.  19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Luke 4:18-19
Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.  John 15:15

76)       How is Christ a priestChrist died for our sins and pleads with God for us.
To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.  Romans 3:26
25Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession[145] for them.  26For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;  27Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.  Hebrews 7:25-27
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?  Hebrews 9:14
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvationHebrews 9:28

77)       How is Christ a king? Christ rules over us, defends us, and will establish His Kingdom on earth.
1The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?  2When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.  3Though an host should encamp[146] against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident[147]4One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple5For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion[148]: In the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
Psalm 27:1-5
For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.  Isaiah 33:22

Exodus 20:1-11

30Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.  31Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination[157] to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.  32What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish[158] from it.  Deuteronomy 12:30-32

95)       Why is it called the Lord’s Day? On that day Christ rose from the dead.
1In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre[161]2And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.  3His countenance[162] was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:  4And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.  5And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.  6He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.  Matthew 28:1-6
1And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. 3And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre4And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. 5And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. 6And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. 7But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.  Mark 16:1-7
1Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.  2And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre3And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.  4And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed[163] thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:  5And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?  6He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,  7Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.  Luke 24:1-7
1The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre2Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.  3Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre4So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre5And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. 6Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, 7And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.  8Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.  9For as yet they knew not the scripture[164], that he must rise again from the dead.  John 20:1-9

10And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath11And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.  12And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.  13And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.  Luke 13:10-13

21Is the law then against the promises of God?  God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.  22But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.  23But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.  24Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith25But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.  26For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.  Galatians 3:21-26

127)     What is an ordinance[184]? An ordinance is a way of remembering Christ’s death and resurrection.
3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?  4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.  7For he that is dead is freed from sin.  8Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.  10For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.  Romans 6:3-10
23For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance[185] of me.  25After the same manner[186] also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament[187] in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.  26For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.  I Corinthians 11:23-26

128)     How many ordinances are there in the Bible? There are two ordinances in the Bible.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Matthew 28:19
23For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.  25After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.  26For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.  I Corinthians 11:23-26

129)     What are the two ordinances? The two ordinances are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
26And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.  27And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;  28For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.  Matthew 26:26-28
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Matthew 28:19

130)     Who appointed these ordinances? The Lord Jesus Christ appointed them.
18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Matthew 28:18-19

131)     Why did Christ appoint these ordinances? Christ appointed these ordinances to distinguish His disciples from the world and to comfort and strengthen them.
38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.  40And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.  Acts 2:38-41

And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:  Matthew 3:11
14But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?  15And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.  16And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.  Matthew 3:14-17

133)     What does baptism mean? Baptism is an outward sign of our union with Christ and of our decision to follow Him.
11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Romans 6:3-11
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.  Galatians 3:27

134)     In whose name are we baptized? We are baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Matthew 28:19

135)     What is the Lord’s supper? The Lord’s supper is a remembrance of Christ’s death for us on the cross and a looking forward to His return.
26And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.  27And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;  26For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.  Matthew 26:26-28
22And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. 23And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.  24And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.  25Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.  Mark 14:22-25
17And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: 18For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.  19And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.  20Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.  Luke 22:17-20

136)     Who is to partake of the Lord’s supper? All those who have trusted Christ as their Savior and are living for Him may partake of the Lord’s supper.
28But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.  29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.  I Corinthians 11:28-29

137)     What are the elements used in the Lord’s supper? The elements used in the Lord’s supper are bread and the fruit of the vine.

138)     What do the bread and the fruit of the vine symbolize? The bread symbolizes Christ’s body which was crucified for us, and the cup symbolizes His blood which was shed for us.

139)     Did Christ remain in the tomb after His crucifixion? No, Christ rose bodily from the tomb on the third day after His death.
From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.  Matthew 16:21
1In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre2And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.  3His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:  4And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.  5And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.  6He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.  Matthew 28:1-6
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.  Romans 6:4
3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:  I Corinthians 15:3-4

140)     Where is Christ now? Christ is in heaven, interceding for us.
And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.  Acts 1:9
19And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:  Ephesians 1:19-21
14Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.  15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.  16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.  Hebrews 4:14-16
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.  Hebrews 7:25

141)     Will Christ come again? Yes, Christ has promised to return to take us to be with Him.
