Three Major Biblical Doctrines Modern Christians No Longer Believe

Evil Hearts of Unbelief (Heb. 3:12)

Many liberal and orthodox Christians have chosen to accept three major areas of unbelief even though many agnostic or atheistic promoters admit uncertainty about the truth of their theories and ideas.

1.      Denial of the continuous preservation of Scripture in many worldwide languages.

2.      Denial of the Genesis historical account of 6 24-hour day creation and world-wide one-year flood.

3.      Denial of the Genesis description of the Earth as the first Created body, central to the entire universe, around which all other stars and planets rotate every 24-hours.

Denial of the Continuous Preservation of Scripture in Many Languages

The continuous, uninterrupted Preservation of Scripture is a foundational doctrine which we gave up in the 1880s even though Westcott and Hort, who led the wave of new “bible” versions, proclaimed their unbelief!

“In matters of textual criticism, the Bible is to be treated like any other ancient book.  No special considerations are to be made concerning its claims of inspiration or preservation.”[1] [Emphasis added]

Modernists deny divine inspiration and deny divine preservation[2] of God’s Word.  This throws doubt on Jesus’ sinless perfection[3] and teaches that His imperfect blood couldn’t pay the price for our sins.  Modernists teach “another Jesus (2 Cor. 11:4[4])” who can’t save anyone, just as Satan desires.

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.  II Corinthians 2:11

Denial of the Genesis 1:20-27 Account of the Creation of Life

In 1859, Charles Darwin published On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life.  He said that over millions of years, natural selection spread favorable mutations and led to the vast number of life forms we see today.  He wrote, “Geology assuredly does not reveal any such finely graduated chain [as evolution requires]; and this, perhaps is the gravest objection which can be urged against my theory. The explanation lies, as I believe, in the extreme imperfection of the geological record.” (Darwin 1859, p. 280)  We haven’t found the many “missing links” that his theory needs.   Evolutionists no longer debate creationists because Creationists win all the debates, yet Christians bow to “science, falsely so-called” [5] and believe in evolution instead of believing Genesis 1:20-27.

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.  II Corinthians 11:3

Denial of the Genesis 1:1-19 Account of the Creation of the Universe

A simple experiment in 1871 showed that the earth was at the center of the universe.[6]  Instead of proclaiming proof of Genesis 1:1-19, Christians accepted Copernicus’ heresy that the earth went around the sun.  Later experiments confirmed the 1871 experiment so conclusively[7] that The Times called Einstein’s attempts to explain the data while letting the earth orbit the sun “an affront to common sense.”[8]

Recent scientists argue that Einstein’s theories must be abandoned.[9]  Harvard professor Richard Lewontin explained why scientists promote the idea that the earth goes around the sun against a great deal of compelling scientific and Biblical evidence14 that proves that the earth is the unmoving center of the universe:

“We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs, in spite of its failure to fulfill many of its extravagant promises of health, in spite of the tolerance of the scientific for unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we have a prior commitment to materialism.

It is not that the methods and institutions of science somehow compel[10] us to accept a material explanation of the phenomenal[11] world, but, on the contrary, that we are forced by our a priori adherence to material causes to create an apparatus of investigation and a set of concepts that produce material explanations, no matter how counterintuitive, no matter how mystifying to the uninitiated.[12]

Moreover, that materialism is absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door.”[13] [emphasis added]

True science goes wherever facts lead.  Basing conclusions on personal preferences is not science.

Christians live by faith.  That means there can’t be scientific proof whether the earth or sun moves.  God said He fixed the earth in place,[14] wrapped the universe around it, and sent His Son to earth to die for our sins (Jn.3:16-17).  Scientists choose to believe that the earth goes around the sun, a minor star among billions, put where it is by random chance, even though the geocentric interpretation is simpler and more logical.

Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.  Jeremiah 17:5

“They have their reward (Mt. 6:2, 6:5, 6:16).”

God expects His people to choose to believe that “God’s in His heaven; all’s right with the world.”[15]  The Bible teaches that God handles the orbiting universe by “the Word of His power (Heb. 1:3).”[16]

Abandoning these Bible doctrines has caused our society great harm.[17]

Before he left for Rome, the Apostle Paul said:

But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: and have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.  Acts 24:24-15

Paul believed all things written in the Bible.  Do you believe the Bible?  Belief in geocentricity versus heliocentricity is an important choice.  The way you treat the Word of God will be on your final exam:

And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last dayJohn 12:47-48

Jesus told us how to approach His Word:

And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  Matthew 18:3-4

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.  Hebrews 3:12

For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.  Luke 9:26

I don’t want Him to be ashamed of me, so I’ve chosen to believe what He wrote in His Word.  Do you trust God’s Word with the simple, literal faith of a little child?  Or do you follow the exalted imaginations (2 Cor. 10:5)[18] and oppositions of science, falsely so called?5

Why it Matters

Jesus declared that His Father’s “word is truth. (Jn. 17:17).”  Jesus is His Word (Jn. 1:14[19]) and He cares how we treat His Word:

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last dayJohn 12:48

Do you believe that Jesus’ words including what He said about planetary motion are true?  Your belief matters to Him.

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.  Mark 8:38 see also Luke 9:26

I don’t want Jesus ashamed of me when He comes back.  I try to spread His Word, and I stand behind it all.  Our faith is very important to Jesus (Hab. 2:4[20]; Rom. 1:17[21], 4:5[22]; Gal. 3:11[23]; Heb. 10:38[24])

We don’t need faith to believe anything that can be proved.  God arranged creation so that there can be no proof whether He exists or not.  He formed His universe so that there can’t be scientific proof whether the earth or the sun moves.   As an honest scientist put it,

“…nor has any physical experiment ever proved that the Earth actually is in motion.”[25]

God said He fixed the earth in place, wrapped the universe around it, and sent His Son to earth to die for our sins.  Scientists have chosen to believe that the earth goes around the sun, a minor planet among billions, put where it is by random chance, even though the geocentric interpretation is simpler and more logical.

Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.  Jeremiah 17:5
“They have their reward (Mt. 6:2, 6:5, 6:16).”

God expects His people to choose to believe that “God’s in His heaven; all’s right with the world.”[26]  The Bible teaches that God handles the math by “the Word of His power (Heb. 1:3).”[27]

Do you trust science, falsely so called[28], or do you trust God’s Word?

Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?  Luke 18:8b

There two primary problems in the Church these days; biblical illiteracy and a lack of discipleship. A major problem with biblival illiterary is too many Fundamentalist teach the Bible through the lense of today's culture rather than the culture and world view of the biblical authors. The blog titled "Three Major Biblical Doctrines Modern Christians No Longer Believe" is one example of first problem in the Church. Tradition and Presuppositions are the cause of the problem.

The author of the blog may as well have said the earth is flat. The solar system does not revolve around the earth. There is too much evidence for that fact. God has the ability to create the solar system that way.

Not believing in a global flood isn't dismissing biblical doctrine. Especially in light when Scripture states that there were giants (Nephilim) in the land in those days and afterward. Scripture doesn't state how the giants lived after the flood. To assume that they are a result of the wives of Noah's sons isn't proper hermenutics. That is a result of eisegesis rather than exegesis.

I understand your view, but the Bible states many times that the sun goes around the earth. These verses are discussed in a post linked from this one. What evidence do you cite that the earth goes around the sun?

As Lorentz put it, “Briefly, everything occurs as if the Earth were at rest…” Lorentz 1886, “On the Influence of the Earth’s Motion of Luminiferous Phenomena,” quoted in Arthur Miller’s Albert Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity, p. 20.
